Coca-Cola Içecek (CCI), whose principal shareholder is Anadolu Group, is a Turkish company operating in Turkey, the Middle East, the Central Asia and Pakistan with 24 plants and 10,000 employees. CCI is getting ready to inaugurate its 10th plant in Turkey. In a press conference with journalists before the inauguration, CCI CEO Burak Basarir said: “We have been growing since 1964 along with Turkey. Despite all challenges, we firmly believe in the potential of our geography, so we’re continuing our investments in partnership with Anadolu Group, our main shareholder.
Basarir continued: “We’re the fifth largest bottler in the Coca-Cola System in terms of volume and second in terms of population. We’ve been operating in Turkey, Pakistan, the Middle East and the Central Asia for a long time. Over the years, we’ve faced several economic fluctuations in every region and we’ve emerged stronger out of these difficulties. In times of crisis, choosing the best course of action is crucial. At CCI, we’ve gotten through difficult times by drawing on our experience. With unwavering confidence in our country, we’re continuing to grow in the face of rapidly changing conditions in Turkey and across the world.”
We Create Value in Turkey
Emphasizing that CCI invested around $1 billion in Turkey over the last 10 years, Basarir said: “We have more than 300 distributors and a sales force of 10,000 in 81 cities of Turkey. In the last 10 years, we’ve doubled our sales volume. The Isparta Plant is a 110 million TL investment and will be our 10th plant in Turkey. In addition, it is the one with the most technologically advanced production lines compared to the other CCI plants in Turkey. With its 220 million liter production capacity, the Isparta Plant will directly and indirectly employ 300 people. Our investments in Turkey and international operations will continue. Every 1 TL we generate results in a 6.8 TL return to the Turkish economy. We directly and indirectly employ 30,000 people and CCI is a growth engine in various sectors across our value chain. Our contribution to GDP is equal that of a mid-sized city in Turkey. The Isparta Plant, we believe, will vitalize the region to a significant degree.
Leadership in Sustainability and Transparency
In his speech, CCI CEO also talked about CCI’s achievements in sustainability: “Across our geography, we’re working hard to ensure sustainability in all business processes and producing higher quality products by using fewer resources and generating less waste. Our Turkey operation is one of the least water and energy consuming operations in the entire Coca-Cola system across the world. Over the last 10 years, we’ve achieved a 17% reduction in our water usage to produce a 1l beverage. Impacts of our operation have been publicly disclosed for the purpose of transparency and accountability. As a consequence, we’ve been the first and only company operating across the Balkans, Turkey, Central Asia and Caucasus to be listed in the “UN Global Compact 100 Index” since 2013. Furthermore, CCI is the first company in Turkey to have disclosed its carbon emissions. We’ve been among Carbon Transparency Leaders of Turkey since 2013 and in the BIST Sustainability Index since 2015. We’re also in the MSCI Sustainability Index and, this year, we were included in the FTSE4Good Developing Countries Index.
