Coca-Cola İçecek Opens Second Plant in Kazakhstan


ceremonyCoca-Cola İçecek opened a new plant in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. In his speech at the opening ceremony, Anadolu Group and Coca-Cola İçecek Chairman Tuncay Özilhan stated that they have invested USD 250 million  within the past 10 years in Kazakhstan and said: “In spite of the macroeconomic fluctuations and devaluations, we believe in the growth potential of all of our markets in Central Asia.” 

Coca-Cola İçecek (CCI), whose principal shareholder is Anadolu Group, operating in Turkey, the Middle East, Central Asia and Pakistan with 25 plants and more than 10,000 employees, opened its second plant in Kazakhstan in the capital city of Astana on 28 May. CCI had established its first plant in Almaty in 1995. CCI invested USD 80 million in the new plant, increasing its production capacity by 21% and creating employment for 300 people.

Tuncay Özilhan: We invested USD 2 billion in our operating geography  within the past 10 years
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Anadolu Group and Coca-Cola İçecek  Chairman Tuncay Özilhan said: “As Anadolu Group, our Coca-Cola production in Central Asia started 20 years ago. Within these years, we got to know this geography and gained experience. Within the following few years, we started our Turkey operations and in 2000s we acquired the  Jordan and Iraq operations. Today CCI is the fifth-largest bottler within the Coca-Cola system in terms of sales volume and the second in terms of population. We have investments in 5 countries in Central Asia and the Caucasus region. We invested more than USD half a million in Central Asia within the past 10 years, and more than USD 250 million of this sum was invested in Kazakhstan. Within the past 10 years the total amount of our investments in our entire operating geography exceeded USD 2 billion”. 
Özilhan also commented on the investment climate in Central Asia, indicating that there are attractive opportunities for Turkish investors in the region. He said: “Above all, the demography of Kazakhstan with its growing population and labor force is one of the biggest opportunities that this country offers. Furthermore, investment costs are very favorable both for existing and new investors. It is also worth pointing out that Kazakhstan government’s proven track record in successfully sustaining economic growth has been a critical factor for us to believe in the potential of this country”.

Burak Başarır: We invested USD 80 million and increased our capacity by 20%
CCI CEO Burak Başarır, in his speech during the press conference of the new plant’s opening ceremony,  said: “We have a sales volume of 6.7 billion liters and net sales of TL 6.5 billion annually. We serve  380 million people in 10 countries.  We directly and indirectly create employment for 2500 people in Kazakhstan. Since 2012, we increased our market share by 20% and we doubled our sales volume. In the last 5 years, our compound annual growth rate in Kazakhstan was more than 20%. With the new plant we open in Astana today, we are increasing our production capacity by 21%. Our new plant creates employment for 300 people. We are planning to invest USD 50 million more  in Kazakhstan within next 3 years. While expanding our operations, we also took important steps  to improve our environmental performance. Through our continuous improvement efforts within the past 10 years, we  reduced our energy and water consumption per liter of product produced by 44% and 30% respectively”.
