Adding value to the region with Gönen Factory, Coca-Cola İçecek announces 2030 Sustainability Commitments

Coca-Cola İçecek (CCI) announced its Sustainability Commitments for 2030 to the public. With a factory in Gönen district of Isparta, CCI takes further action to achieve the following goals by 2030: Using at least 50% recycled plastic in all packages, implementing packaging collection systems, increasing water efficiency by 20%, water recovery projects, switching to 100% renewable electricity in its facilities, reducing carbon emissions by 13%, achieving 100% compliance with the Human Rights Policy, increasing the number of female employees to ensure gender equality at work and reaching out to 3.5 million people through sustainable development programs.  

Coca-Cola İçecek (CCI) has demonstrated that its taking responsibility for the future with its 2030 Sustainability Commitments while the company is serving 430 million across 11 countries, with 10 thousand employees and a huge ecosystem of nearly 100 thousand people. CCI has focused its roadmap on six main issues: packaging, water and environmental change under environmental issues and human rights, diversity and inclusion as well as community investments in social issues and the company has put together its efforts under nine commitments.  

“We are taking responsibility” 

Burak Başarır reminded that CCI also has a factory in Gönen district of Isparta and that the company started its sustainability journey with its first environment policy issued 20 years ago. Başarır added: “We are striving to create more value every day for our employees, communities, consumers and customers. We have achieved significant success, but we are also aware that we still have a lot more to do. Now we are taking another significant step and taking responsibility again with our 2030 commitments.”  

Başarır continued: “We are aware of our responsibility as a global company. We have always been diligent about sharing CCI’s social, environmental and financial performance with our shareholders in line with the principles of transparency and accountability. We know that achieving our goals would only be possible through the full integration of sustainability into our business strategy. Therefore, we approach our sustainability initiatives not as projects, but as changing the way we do business. In this context, we are honored to share our commitments under ‘Packaging, Water, Climate Change, Human Rights, Diversity and Inclusion, and Community Investments’.” 

Coca-Cola İçecek 2030 Sustainability Commitments are:  

Commitment #1: Continue to make 100% of our packaging recyclable and use at least 50% recycled material in our plastic packaging by 2030  

Commitment #2: Collect and recycle a bottle or can for each one we sell in Türkiye, Pakistan and Kazakhstan, initiate collection programs in other countries 

Commitment #3: Increase water efficiency by 20% by 2030 (Base Year: 2020)  

Commitment #4: Aim for water neutrality and help secure water availability in water-stressed locations through community projects  

Commitment #5: Run our manufacturing sites on 100% renewable electricity and make them carbon-neutral 

Commitment #6: Reduce our total absolute GHG emissions by 13% by 2030 and emissions per liter of product by 50% by 2030 while growing the business (Base Year: 2015) 

Commitment #7: Establish mechanisms to ensure that CCI’s distributors and priority suppliers are %100 compliant with CCI Human Rights Policy  

Commitment #8: Ensure that 35% of new hires, 40% of managerial positions and 50% of executive committee members are women by 2030 

Commitment #9: Reach up to 3.5M people until 2030 with our sustainable development programs with a focus on women, youth empowerment and environment
