Renewable Energy Boost from CCI

Renewable Energy Boost from CCI

24.04.2023

In the first year of its 2030 Sustainability Commitments, Coca-Cola İçecek (CCI) has signed five major investments to run its plants on 100% renewable energy and switching to carbon neutral production. After establishing a solar power plant at its Isparta and Köyceğiz plants, CCI also started preparations for a wind turbine at its Çorlu plant to switch to renewable energy. Additionally, CCI established solar power plants in Haripur and Multan, Pakistan.

Coca-Cola İçecek (CCI) continues to work in line with its 2030 Sustainability Commitments that was announced last year on April 22, Earth Day. Accordingly, CCI established solar power plants in Köyceğiz and Isparta plants in Türkiye in line with its goal to run its plants with 100% renewable energy and move towards carbon neutral production. With the commissioning of the power plant, CCI started to meet 36% of its consumption at the Isparta plant using self-generated electricity. After the commissioning of the solar power plants, 25% of Köyceğiz plant's electricity consumption and 35% of Çorlu plant’s electricity consumption will be met by renewable energy investments. In Pakistan, 14% of the consumption at Haripur plant and 12% of the consumption at Multan plant will be generated from solar power plants.

Coca-Cola İçecek’s CEO, Burak Başarır commented, "Last year, we announced our 2030 commitments on Earth Day, April 22nd. An important part of our commitments was on the 'use of renewable energy'. We are aware that we still have a lot of work to do, but I am pleased to say that we have taken important steps on this matter before the end of our first year. With investments that bring us one step closer to our 2030 commitments, we will supply 13% of Türkiye’s and 3% of Pakistan's total electricity consumption, which constitute two of our largest operations, from renewable energy sources in the first year. CCI will continue to invest in renewable energy in the near future".

Serving 430 million across 11 countries, with 10 thousand employees and a huge ecosystem of nearly 100 thousand people, CCI has demonstrated its responsibility for the future with its 2030 Sustainability Commitments. CCI has started taking actions to achieve its targets for 2030 to use at least 50% recycled plastic in all its packaging, initiating waste collection programs, increase water efficiency by 20%, carry out water replenishment projects, switch to 100% renewable electricity in its facilities, reduce carbon emissions by 13%, achieve 100% compliance with its Human Rights Policy, increase women employment to ensure gender equality at work and reach 3.5 million people with sustainable development programs.
